Dr Stefan Arnold is Managing Director and Principal Consultant at BPC Arnold GmbH BioPharma Consulting.

He founded the consultancy  in April 2014 to provide customers in the biopharmaceutical field with individual support in process development and project management. His in-depth expertise in biopharmaceutical development enables individual project valuations for a proper portfolio selection and implementation. Through our robust network of top-tier consultants and providers, we enable the execution of even the most complex projects. Special fields are mRNA vaccines, Biosimilars and Biobetters development.  

The recent assignment of Dr Arnold comprised the role as Vice President Technical Development at Curevac SE with responsibility for all CMC development activities. (development and implementation of a standardized fully automated production platform for drug substance and drug product production processes for personalized cancer vaccines. Prior, the development and implementation of processes for Covid-19 and Influenza mRNA vaccines and their transfer to a world leading vaccine company (GSK) within a licence agreement was enabled. Dr Stefan Arnold acted as Chief Scientific Officer and member of the executive board at InstrAction GmbH Mannheim from  2012 to 2014. In this function, he was responsible for product development  and manufacture of novel agent-specific (both chemical and biolological agents) multimodal chromatography matrices as well as implementation of such matrices in (bio-)pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

He is co-founder of BioGeneriX AG in 2000, where he took responsibility for Process Development, Project Valuation and as executive Project Manager for Biosimilars until 2011. As one pioneer and expert in biosimilar CMC he developed manufacturing processes for four successfully EMA-licenced biopharmaceuticals (RATIOGRASTIM, LONGQUEX, EPORATIO, OVALEAP). Dr Arnold operated as Head of Down Stream Processing from 1999 -2000 at Merckle GmbH, Ulm, as Deputy Head of Department Protein Chemistry at Pharmacia & Upjohn Diagnostics in Freiburg from 1997 to 1999. Prior as Senior Scientist in the autoimmunity field at Elias GmbH, Freiburg from 1995 to 1997.

Dr Arnold is author of numerous scientific publications and holds patents in the biopharmaceutical field (process and formulation of blockbuster biopharmaceuticals EPO, IFN-beta, FSH, HTScreening Systems for chromatography ligand idendification, liquid mRNA LNP formulations).

He is member of the advisory boards of the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim and the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin.

Dr Arnold received his PhD in Physiological Chemistry from the Theodor-Boveri-Institute, Würzburg in 1994 and holds a Diploma in Chemistry of the University of Würzburg, Germany.

Besides German (native language) he has further knowledge in English (fluent in spoken and written) and Italian (good basic in spoken and written).
